Thailand Launches Fresh Airstrikes On Cambodia — Is Trump-Brokered Ceasefire Crumbling? | World News

Thailand-Cambodia Tension: Thailand reportedly carried out airstrikes along the Cambodian border, even though both countries had officially signed a peace agreement in Malaysia in early October.

The peace agreement was expected to put an end to border tensions and military tensions that have been increasing for years.

Reuters reported that the Thai army stated that one Thai soldier was killed and four others were injured in clashes in two regions in the easternmost province of Ubon Ratchathani after their soldiers were opened fire on from Cambodia.

Meanwhile, the Cambodian defense ministry reportedly stated that the Thai army attacked its own forces at two points after days of provocative actions and that Cambodian troops did not retaliate.

Thailand-Cambodia Peace Agreement

The peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia was signed in the presence of Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN Chairman Anwar Ibrahim, as well as US President Donald Trump, who played an important role in brokering the agreement.

At a signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul put to paper the “Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement”, an agreement hailed as a milestone for regional stability.

President Trump, who presided over the ceremony, emphasized the role of economic diplomacy in promoting peace, according to IANS. He announced that the US had reached two separate agreements, in addition to the peace pact, a new trade agreement with Cambodia and a strategic mining partnership with Thailand.
