AIIMS Mangalagiri Marks NRP Day With Training Sessions

VIJAYAWADA: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri celebrated National Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Day on Sunday with educational sessions and awareness activities under the theme “One Day, One Nation, One Mission”.

The program was part of a nationwide initiative led by the National Neonatology Forum to strengthen neonatal resuscitation skills and reduce neonatal deaths.

Medical experts said that nearly 40 percent of newborn deaths in India occur within the first 24 hours after birth, while birth asphyxia is responsible for about 15 to 20 percent of these deaths.

Doctors emphasized that many neonatal deaths could be prevented with quality prenatal care, strict intrapartum monitoring in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) protocols, and the availability of healthcare providers trained in bag and mask ventilation during birth.

As part of the programme, AIIMS Mangalagiri organized practical neonatal resuscitation training sessions for doctors and nursing officers to improve emergency response during birth.

AIIMS Director Ahanthem Santa Singh, Dean Prof. Desu Ramamohan, neonatologist Dr Mandula Phani Priya and other faculty members, paediatricians and nurses attended.
