Airports hit with ‘sh*t show’ delays amid Telstra outage

Perth Airport ground to a halt on Wednesday morning due to a nationwide Telstra outage affecting air travel and trains.
The disruption began in the early hours, just before flights to regional mining sites in Western Australia were set to last a full day.
Images posted online with the caption simply “Show Shit Perth Airport” show hundreds, if not thousands, of people (mostly FIFO workers) in huge queues trying to reach departure gates.
The airport’s flight information shows dozens of early morning flights, mostly to mining sites, were delayed by at least 90 minutes. Some flights were delayed by almost three hours.
Perth Airport has been contacted for comment.

A Sydney Airport spokesman said nothing at the airport was affected.
“At this stage the airport is operating normally,” the spokesperson told NewsWire.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as necessary.”
A Melbourne Airport spokesman said the outage did not affect its operations on Wednesday morning.
“We will continue to monitor throughout the day and provide updates as needed,” the spokesperson said.
