Thieves drag ATM with black stolen SUV through Fort Worth 7-Eleven store

Police said thieves tried to steal an ATM by dragging it outside a Texas convenience store with a stolen SUV and a metal cable on Christmas Eve, but the machine broke free as they fled the scene.
The White Settlement Police Department released footage of the two men pulling an ATM through the front glass doors of a 7-Eleven in Fort Worth before driving away.
Police said the botched robbery happened just before 4 a.m. Wednesday morning and may be connected to a string of similar convenience store crimes reported in North Texas in recent weeks.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects to determine whether the incident is part of a larger crime pattern.

White Settlement police said in a statement that two men drove into the store’s parking lot in a stolen SUV, wearing dark clothing and their faces covered.
Investigators said one of the men broke the front door with a metal object and wired it to an ATM connected to the vehicle.
Officers found extensive damage to the front of the store, with debris, shelves and merchandise scattered throughout the store and parking lot.

Police said the thieves made two attempts to remove the ATM from the store.
After the suspects escaped, the ATM was removed from the vehicle and later recovered by the police.

Investigators added that the black SUV was stolen in Dallas.
Police used license plate readers and city cameras throughout the city to locate the store, about a half-mile away.
