The video resurfaced after Akshaye Khanna’s entry scene in Dhurandhar went viral with social media users drawing parallels between the dancing styles of father and son. The video, reportedly from a charity concert held in Lahore in 1989, captures a moment from a cross-border charity event and has been widely shared across various platforms since it went viral.
Many viewers commented on the similarity between Vinod Khanna’s dance moves in the footage and Akshaye Khanna’s exciting entry scene in Dhurandhar, a spy action thriller set in Pakistan. How did Akshaye Khanna prepare for the song in Dhurandar?
Akshaye Khanna’s Dhurandar co-star Danish Pandor, in a recent interaction with Filmygyan, revealed that Akshaye improvised dance steps which have now gone viral on social media. Telling Filmygyan that Akshaye’s dancing was completely spontaneous, Danish said, “He did all this on his own. There was full choreography being done and in the middle of it, Akshaye asked Aditya sir, ‘can I dance?’ he asked. Aditya said ‘whatever you want to do’. So everyone is dancing, and he looks at everyone else, and then he starts dancing by himself. And we were all stunned.”

In the viral song ‘FA9LA’, Akshaye Khanna, wearing a brand new black suit, gets out of the car, hugs the Baloch rebel leader and greets the crowd. Ranveer and Danish follow him along with other men. But when he sees the dancers performing a traditional routine, he joins them and then sits down.
Choreographer Vijay Ganguly also talked about Akshaye’s improvisation in an interview with Mid-Day. “He actually had to walk in, walk through the dancers and sit on the throne. When he saw the mood of the stage and the performance of the dancers, the amazing actor Akshaye was, he said he would do some dancing when he walked in. None of us knew what he was going to do. Akshaye entered the stage, from that point on, he took the stage and spontaneously performed.”
Ganguly also revealed that since the song was shot in Ladakh, Akshaye’s oxygen level dropped in the high terrain and he had to carry an oxygen cylinder with him while shooting the song. “Akshaye was carrying a small oxygen tank with him. While we were shooting this song, his oxygen level had gone down. That’s why he was wearing his oxygen mask after every shoot. He did the sequence without blinking an eye and then went home.”

The song FA9LA by Gulf-based hip-hop artist Flipperachi, which featured prominently during Akshaye Khanna’s participation, also regained popularity following the release of the film. The song was released in 2024, but went viral in India after the release of Dhurandar. Earlier, Ranveer Singh had shared the track on Instagram and wrote, “Here is the track ‘THAT’ from the movie. FLIPPERACHI.”
Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar grabbed attention with its strong cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi and newcomer Sara Arjun. The film is about an Indian spy who infiltrates terrorist networks in Lyari, Pakistan. Among the actors, Akshaye Khanna’s performance stood out and received praise from the audience and critics alike.
