Akshaye Khanna to not shoot fresh scenes for Ranveer Singh’s sequel but will return as Rehman Dakait, Aditya Dhar to release trailer in February

Dhurandhar 2 has emerged as one of the most anticipated Hindi films of 2026, following the blockbuster success of its first film, which released in December 2025. While Ranveer Singh helmed Aditya Dhar, it was Akshaye Khanna who stole the thunder with his thrilling portrayal of real-life Karachi gangster Rehman Dakait. His performance was widely praised, especially for his on-screen presence and intensity. The dance scene in the song FA9LA composed by Bahraini rapper Flipperachi has become a nationwide viral sensation. Akshaye’s Rehman Dakait is killed off by Ranveer’s Hamza Ali Mazari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi in the climax. A recent Filmfare report suggested that as the character has become immensely popular, the actor is set to shoot new scenes for a week to expand on his character’s backstory in the sequel and add more layers to his role.

However, according to latest sources, no such shoot is planned anymore and Akshaye’s character Rehman Dakait will be seen only in a few flashback scenes in Dhurandhar 2. A source was quoted as telling Bollywood Hungama, “Akshaye Khanna has not shot for Dhurandhar 2 after the release of the first part and is not scheduled to shoot either. Aditya Dhar has already shot both the parts together and there are no plans to add more screen time for Rehman as the character has garnered a fan base. One of the reasons why Dhurandhar did wonders is Aditya’s honest filmmaking; it was a real effort and the audience could feel it. He wants to continue. That’s the same in the sequel.” will not be making any money from the effort, but Akshaye is also appearing in a few scenes in Dhurandhar 2, which will see Rehman once again in Dhurandhar 2.

An insider also told Pinkvilla, “There is no further shooting with Akshaye Khanna at the moment. His parts have been wrapped already and are part of the major flashback moments in the narrative.” They also added that Aditya Dhar is currently working on the trailer of the sequel, which the makers are planning to release by the end of February. “Aditya is sitting on the trailer edit. The idea is to deliver something impressive again. Shashwat Sachdev has simultaneously started working on the background music of the film. Both audio and visuals are being taken as top priority,” the insider added.

Dhurandhar 2 goes pan-India

Dhurandhar 2, which also stars Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor, Sara Arjun and Gaurav Gera in pivotal roles, is scheduled to release in theaters worldwide on March 19, coinciding with the festivals of Eid-al-Adha, Gudi Padwa, Ugadi and Chaitra Navratri. While the first part, which grossed Rs 1,300 crore worldwide and earned Rs 870 crore in India, was released only in Hindi, the makers are taking the sequel pan-India, which is planned to release in theaters in the original Hindi language as well as dubbed Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions.

The sequel will clash at the box office with period gangster drama Toxic, starring Yash and also starring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Kureshi and Rukmini Vasanth. The first look of the Geetu Mohandas directorial, which was announced on the KGF star’s birthday earlier this month, has already caused huge controversy with its sex scene. Adding to the crowded release list, action drama Dacoit, directed by Adivi Sesh, Mrunal Thakur and Anurag Kashyap, is also scheduled to hit the theaters on March 19.
