Alec Baldwin sued by Rust movie’s prop gun supplier

He is suing Rust’s prop gun supplier, Alec Baldwin, and the film’s producers.

Seth Kenney, owner of PDQ Arm and Prop, LLC, supplied the prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the neo-Western film in New Mexico in 2021, claiming the crew “conspired” to launch a “scapegoat smear campaign” against him and his company.

In a complaint filed in New Mexico on October 22, Kenney accused Baldwin and the producers of “false light, conversion, unjust enrichment and tortious interference.”

He has since been seeking damages and compensation, claiming he had difficulty finding work in the film industry but chose not to have legal representation.

The document alleges that “the rental firearm property was in good working order” before the tragedy.

Kenney notes that he rented the prop “under strict safety guidelines and practices and with the understanding that (the producers) would observe and comply with local, state and federal laws.”

Baldwin was rehearsing a scene in which his gun went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

He is adamant that he did not pull the trigger of the gun or know why it contained live ammunition.

The 67-year-old faced a charge of involuntary manslaughter, which was canceled by the judge in 2024. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was convicted in March 2024 and sentenced to 14 months in prison after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for putting live ammunition into Alec’s gun.

Kenney is not pleased and claims they “breached the lease by allowing the loading, illegal storage and unloading of live ammunition.”

Kenney claimed he faced “horrendous financial damage and emotional trauma,” adding that he faced “devastating financial losses, damage to his reputation in the film community and the public at large, severe emotional distress, and significant losses of past, present and future financial income.”

In an interview with Variety, he said: “It was devastating.

“This isn’t about saving face. There’s nothing left to lose. This was all bullshit and I became the scapegoat.”
