Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-Y., is keeping the door open for a 2028 White House run after a new poll shows the New York Democrat as the leading choice among Democratic presidential candidates.
He skipped Fox News Digital’s question about whether he wants to be the Democrats’ 2028 nominee.
“I really didn’t take anything seriously after the midterm elections,” Ocasio-Cortez told Fox News Digital when asked if she would consider running for office. “I guess I get that information like everyone else.”

The progressive House Democrat has repeatedly toyed with the idea of both a presidential bid and a potential Senate bid to run against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DY) as he faces re-election in two years.
Information on the Democratic party’s top pick for the 2028 presidential election was released Wednesday in the University of New Hampshire Granite State Poll, revealing Ocasio-Cortez as voters’ leading candidate.
Although New Hampshire no longer holds its first official Democratic presidential primary, the state has played a big role in testing potential candidates for the White House and continues to closely monitor early voter signals.
Ocasio-Cortez declined to give her own thoughts on the poll, which showed strong interest in her leading the Democrats in the next election cycle.

“You’ll have to ask the voters about that,” Ocasio-Cortez said when asked about the new poll. “I know less about this than they do.”
The poll showed him ahead of other candidates likely to run in 2028, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, former Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Gavin Newsom and other prominent party members.
Support for Ocasio-Cortez rose to 22% among likely Democratic voters. Ocasio-Cortez has gained seven points since the February poll, placing her one point ahead of Buttigieg and 17 points ahead of Harris.
Both Harris and Newsom have lost points since the February poll.

Ocasio-Cortez backed many socialists who won their respective primaries, outpacing incumbents and mainstream Democrats.
Ocasio-Cortez was supported by the Democratic Socialists of America in previous elections. He is widely expected to have the support of the Democratic Socialists of America for the 2028 election, as internal strife has erupted within the organization over the potential election.

Some Democratic Socialists of America members are advocating for an earlier announcement of the presidential endorsement, as the organization selects its endorsements at its biennial national convention, which usually takes place in the summer of 2027.
