Alexia Putellas: Spain midfielder opts to join London City Lionesses

Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas has opted to join Women’s Super League club London City Lionesses.

The 32-year-old left Barcelona in May after 14 years and is considered one of the greatest players in women’s football.

Sources close to the 32-year-old have told BBC Sport that he has chosen the South London club over Boston Legacy in the United States.

Although the Lionesses are confident of completing the deal, club sources say there is no final agreement yet.

Putellas led Barcelona to their fourth Champions League title after finishing sixth in his first season last year.

The Spanish midfielder scored a club record 232 goals in 507 appearances and is second on the all-time appearances list, just nine behind Melanie Serrano with 516 goals.
