Alien Autopsy creators explain how they fooled the world
The team behind the 1995 alien autopsy film have revealed how they created the shocking footage that finally fooled the world.
Ray Santilli and Gary Shoefield shared 18 minutes of grainy footage purportedly showing US officials examining the body of an alien recovered from a UFO crash site in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, which was made into a film called Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction. This film was released worldwide and sparked years of controversy, although it was later confirmed that the footage was shot in the living room of a house in Camden, North London.
Now Ray and Gary have begun production on the film in new documentary The Alien Autopsy Scandal, claiming that they bought the original film from a shady character simply referred to as the Camera Man during a trip to the US, but the filmed nitrate spoiled after it was opened for the first time since 1947, forcing them to recreate the autopsy to please their investors.
In the documentary, it was revealed that the alien model was made by a special effects expert who had previously created creatures for the science fiction series Doctor Who, and that its body was stuffed with animal parts taken from a local butcher to make the autopsy look as realistic as possible.
Trevor the Butcher explained how pig eyes were used against the fake alien, but also how they used lamb brains, pig hearts and other organs so that the men portraying the scientists (including the special effects master) could dissect the body, which took about seven hours to film.
The alien autopsy team also described how they went to great lengths to find the original medical instruments to be used in the 1940s, making sure every detail, from the phone to the lighting to the clothing seen on screen, was as historically accurate as possible.
However, both Ray and Gary insisted that they were restoring footage lost due to film degradation and not creating a money-making scam.
Ray also said that some stills from the original film were recovered by a specialist film company in Wembley, North London, and that these, along with the recreated footage, were edited to add “realism” and “authenticity”.
