‘All lines closed’ after incident at train station shuts down network | UK | News

Some train services have been suspended tonight as emergency services respond to a serious incident at Midlands railway station.
Since then, the train schedule has been thrown into chaos; Journeys to Scotland, Wales and many cities in England are now being hastily rescheduled and experiencing delays, while emergency services are responding to an incident at Birmingham Northfield Railway Station.
Police were seen at the station tonight while ‘all lines’ between Birmingham New Street and Kings Norton/Bromsgrove/Hereford and Litchfield Trent Valley and Redditch were suspended.
CrossCountry trains between Edinburgh and Bristol Temple Meads, between Leeds and Plymouth and also between Leicester and Cardiff Central were also affected.
It’s unclear what happened, but there were reports of people outside the station being visibly upset.
A spokesman for National Rail wrote on its website: “Emergency services are attending to an incident in the Kings Norton area.
“All lines are closed so they can do their job safely.
“Trains between Birmingham New Street and Droitwich Spa/Worcestershire Parkway may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised.
“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.”
Road transport has been requested and will operate all stations between Longbridge and Redditch and Longbridge and Bromsgrove. We estimate ground transportation service will begin within the hour.
