My Implant Dentist is the realization of Kent Tan’s mission to make high-quality dental implant treatment more affordable and accessible.

Mr Tan founded the business in Perth in 2019 and My Implant Dentist has since grown to operate seven clinics in Western Australia, including one in Karratha.

Elsewhere in the country, the 100-strong team now runs two clinics in Brisbane and one in Melbourne.

At its core, My Implant Dentist is a model that combines surgical, prosthetics and laboratory functions in one place: the in-house dental laboratory.

According to Mr Tan, establishing the laboratory and upskilling staff were necessary milestones when Covid disrupted the business’s supply chains and staff supply lines.

The company decided to reduce its reliance on overseas workers and pivoted to offering clinical mentoring and graduate recruitment services.

My Implant Dentist’s biggest challenge post-Covid was adapting to technological advances, including artificial intelligence.

My Implant Dentist has embraced artificial intelligence, intraoral scanning, photogrammetry and 3D printing, which has led to fewer clinical errors, shorter lead times and lower costs.

But Mr Tan was quick to admit that as the business grew, some pitfalls emerged.

My Implant Dentist initially underestimated the complexity of scaling clinic operations to multiple facilities and strained its systems, leadership, and hiring process during early expansion.

The business made missteps by implementing a formalized operating structure, creating training pathways, and investing in experienced leadership.

Investments made after learning these lessons have led to My Implant Dentist providing more than 1,000 dental implants annually.

Looking ahead, My Implant Dentist aims to open two Western Australian clinics in WA and one more Western Australian clinic in Queensland in 2026.
