Tess Daly and Vernon Kay shocked fans on Friday when they announced they were splitting after 23 years of marriage, but now it looks like it’s been a long time in the making, we’re looking at the signs…..
In a heartbreaking statement, the pair announced that they had decided to separate after ‘much thought and a deep sense of care and respect for each other’.
Separate family trips
Their eldest daughter, Phoebe, recently moved to New York to pursue a career in modeling, but has only been seen spending time separately with her parents when she returns to the UK.
Phoebe is a film production student who documents her enviable lifestyle to a growing following, and she also takes on the role of influencer.
Just this week he met his father for drinks on the rooftop of the swanky Mayfair hotel The Chancery Rosewood.
The couple looked equally chic in the photo, with Vernon captioning the post: ‘Ahhhhh Summer nights with @phoebeekay at @thechanceryrosewood penthouse in London Best view of clear blue evening skies…’.
This came just days after Phoebe had ice cream at the park with her mother, Tess; Tess also took a photo on Instagram, writing: ‘I’ve got my Phoebe back for a few days and I’m making the most of every moment.’

Changing family dynamics
Last month Vernon opened up about his family’s ‘changing’ dynamic as he insisted he and Tess’ daughters would never be spoiled with nepo babies.
He said he and his ex-wife always instilled a strong work ethic in their daughters and encouraged them to “go out and do corruption.”
‘Now that Phoebe is 21 and Amber is almost 17, our relationship with them is changing. ‘We talk about encouraging them to leave the nest and become independent, but we don’t actually want that.’
Phoebe explained that she feared for the couple’s children, recalling the horror of the increase in drinking when she was old enough to go clubbing.
‘You have to learn to enter their world, and this world has traps that don’t exist for us.’
Social media snub
Looking at the couple’s social media, fans would make the mistake of thinking that the couple hasn’t checked in with each other since February.
Last month, Vernon joined Tess and daughter Phoebe on a sunny outing with the bikini brand – but his wife chose not to show her face.
Gone are the couple’s glittery selfies, in which Tess chose to show only the back of Vernon’s head as he sat on the beach before heading to the sea.
He also posted photos from his getaway, but just like his wife, he didn’t include any photos of her, choosing instead to pose next to their daughter.

Big changes in life
The most obvious change for Tess in recent months was her decision to step down from hosting the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing after 21 years.
Just a day before leaving Vernon, Tess allegedly wanted to be ‘selfish’ and have ‘a year to grow up’.
The former Strictly Come Dancing presenter, who quit her coveted role on the BBC show after years of prioritizing work, is said to be ‘desperate to see the world’ after 21 years on the show.
Just the day before, sources had said Tess had hoped to go away ‘for a year’ but Vernon would only be able to travel for a few weeks due to work commitments.
They said: ‘Tess has always put Vernon and the girls first and now she wants to be a bit selfish and make the most of their situation and her newfound freedom.’
Source added closer magazine: ‘He has been working since his teens and has never had the opportunity to travel. Even though he knows how lucky he is, he feels like he’s been kidnapped.
‘Vernon says they can’t do it all year long because it’s a Radio 2 show, but he likes the idea of flying away for weeks and then coming home.’
But in a heartbreaking statement released on Friday, the pair revealed they had decided to separate after ‘much thought and their deep concern and respect for each other’.
