Alleged Bondi Beach killers likely ‘acted alone’

There is no evidence that the two men who allegedly carried out the terror attack on Australian Jews at Sydney Beach were trained in the Philippines.

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the assessment on Tuesday, based on the Philippine National Police’s initial finding.

It is known that the couple arrived in the capital Manila from Australia on November 1 before heading to Davao city.

They returned to Sydney on November 29, two weeks before the Bondi Beach shooting that killed 15 people and injured scores more.

“The initial assessment is that the individuals rarely left their hotels and there was no evidence they had trained or made logistical preparations for the alleged attack,” Ms Barrett said.

“CCTV footage showing their stay in the Philippines was made available to AFP and we are currently reviewing this material.

“What this indicates – and I want to reiterate that this is a point-in-time assessment – is that these individuals are alleged to have acted alone.”

Ms Barrett was giving an update on Operation Arques, the ongoing counter-terrorism investigation by NSW Police, Australian Federal Police, Australian Security Intelligence Agency and the NSW Crime Commission into the December 14 attack.
