Alleged petrol and gun murder plot thwarted on street

An alleged plot to kill a man with a firearm and gasoline was foiled when the plot suspect was arrested following a tip-off to the police.

Francesco Caputi, 26, was detained as a passenger at a vehicle stop in Woodbine, south-west Sydney, on Monday.

Police said he was part of a criminal group that planned to kill a 34-year-old man.

Officers began investigating on December 28 after receiving information regarding the alleged plot.

Caputi appeared in Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday charged with participating in a criminal group and conspiring to murder a person, which he admitted.

He did not apply for bail and will appear in the same court on March 10.

Court documents seen by AAP accuse the Bradbury man of planning to “destroy and destroy” the target person using a firearm and petrol.

During the arrest of the 26-year-old, police seized mobile phones, a balaclava and black clothes from the vehicle.

A search of a property in Bradbury was carried out on Monday afternoon; here officers seized CCTV, banned drugs and more clothing.
