Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna’s Pushpa 2 to release in Japan on this date, can it beat Prabhas, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2?

Pushpa 2: The Rule, directed by Sukumar and starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil, will be released in Japan next month. The blockbuster action drama, a sequel to the 2021 superhit Pushpa: The Rise, first released globally on December 5, 2024 and became the highest-grossing Indian film of last year.

Geek Pictures India, which is distributing the film in Japan, used the X timeline to make the announcement. “‘Konnichiwa, Nihon no Tomo yo’, the Industry Hit of Indian Cinema, shines with all its might in Japan! Pushpa Raj takes over Japan on January 16, 2026, spreading the forest fire beyond borders and seas,” he wrote and shared the Japanese poster of the movie.

Rashmika Mandanna, who plays Srivalli in the Pushpa series, also used the X timeline to write: “Konnichiwa, Japan!! Aaaand the forest fire is officially going global. Pushpa lands in Japan on January 16, 2026.. are you ready?” and shared the link to the Japanese trailer. Allu Arjun plays the lead role of Pushpa Raj.

The Allu Arjun-starrer film is also the third highest-grossing Indian film of all time with a global collection of ₹1742 crore. Once released in Japan, the film could easily surpass the lifetime earnings of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and become the second highest-grossing Indian film ever. SS Rajamouli’s 2017 epic action drama starring Prabhas grossed Rs 1788 crore worldwide. It remains the highest-grossing Indian film, Aamir Khan starrer Nitesh Tiwari’s 2016 sports drama Dangal earned Rs 2070 billion at the global box office. The exciting post-credits scene in Pushpa 2: The Rule confirmed that the Pushpa saga will continue and revealed the title of the upcoming third film, Pushpa 3: The Rampage. The franchise is bankrolled by Naveen Yerneni and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar under the banner Mythri Movie Makers.
