Almost 200 prisoners released ‘in error’ last year, new figures show

Nearly 200 prisoners were released “in error” last year, new government figures have revealed.

The Ministry of Justice mistakenly released a total of 179 prisoners in England and Wales between April 2025 and March 2026.
