Almost 700 migrants cross Channel in 48 hours as ‘summer of chaos’ warning issued | Politics | News

Nearly 700 small boat migrants have arrived in the UK in the last two days amid warnings of a “summer of chaos”. About 287 people made the perilous journey across the Canal on four boats on Saturday as people smugglers took advantage of the heat wave, while another 394 people arrived on six boats on Friday.

And more crossed the border today with migrants gesturing after boarding a boat in Dunkirk, France. The Conservative Party has warned that Sir Keir Starmer’s government has “no border control” following the latest arrivals.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: “Seven hundred illegal immigrants crossed the canal on Friday and Saturday, with further flooding on Sunday.

“This beautiful weather has exposed the fact that Shabana Mahmood and the Labor Party have no border control.

“They are more interested in leadership fights than keeping illegal immigrants out. As a result, we are facing a huge wave of illegal immigrants this summer.

“Labour was only able to send back 7 per cent of illegal immigrants by small boat because they refused to leave the ECtHR. With 93 per cent allowed to stay, it is no surprise they keep coming.

“We can only end migration with the Conservative Party’s BORDERS plan. We will ban illegal immigrants from claiming asylum, leave the ECHR and stop the courts from intervening to allow illegal immigrants to stay.

“This will allow all illegal immigrants by small boat to be deported within a week of arrival; if possible, back to their country of origin, if not, to a safe third country. Then the crossings will soon stop. But Labor is too weak to do this.”

Reform England’s home affairs spokesman, Zia Yusuf, warned of a “summer of chaos”.

He said: ‘What we are witnessing is chaos unfolding before our eyes and a Labor government that has completely lost control of the situation. Only Reform England will stop the boats and deport every illegal immigrant.”

The new arrivals bring the total number of small boat migrants so far this year to more than 8,000.
