Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir said on Saturday, July 19, 2026 that Amarnath and Mata Vaishno Devi Yatras will be temporarily suspended from July 19 due to inclement weather.

“In view of the severe weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shri Amarnathji Yatra will be temporarily suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes with effect from 19.07.2026 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and welfare of pilgrims,” ​​Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, said in a statement. he said.

While no onward movement will be allowed from the base camps of Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari in Kashmir region, no convoy of pilgrims will be allowed to proceed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu.

“Updates on the resumption of the (Amarnath) Yatra will be issued in due course after ensuring route safety and thorough assessment of weather conditions,” he said.

More than 3.76 lakh pilgrims have so far paid obeisance at the sacred cave temple during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

Confirming the suspension of Vaishno Devi Yatra, an official spokesperson in Jammu said, “In view of the severe weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra will be temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and welfare of pilgrims.”

He said the decision was taken in the interest of public safety, following forecasts indicating adverse weather conditions in the region. Devotees are advised to cooperate with authorities and refrain from pilgrimage until further orders.

The meteorologist has predicted moderate to widespread rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir from July 19 to 23.

The spokesperson said pilgrims are requested to stay updated through official communication channels for the latest information regarding the resumption of Vaishno Devi Yatra.
