Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren SanchezThey are in Sydney. We don’t know for what purpose. But if nothing else, there was some consternation that the world’s fourth richest man would choose to spend his time in the Emerald City.
Bezos, who was seen out for lunch at beige luxury restaurant Mimi’s in Coogee on Friday, was seen entering the Park Hyatt bar that evening, where he was reliably photographed by a CBD spy with what appeared to be a negroni. Bezos, dressed in black and wearing Cuban-style high-heeled boots, was with an unshaven man whose identity has not yet been determined.
So, transportation and accommodation aside, the billionaire Amazon founder lives like the rest of us.
Judging by Sanchez’s Instagram account, the duo may be staying at the Park Hyatt, whose 350-square-foot Sydney Suite bears a striking resemblance to the balcony Sanchez shared with her 1.1 million followers on Sunday morning. The suite’s nightly price is not listed by Hyatt, but it reportedly starts at around $21,000 per night.
Then there is transportation. Flight tracking data shows that a plane widely reported to belong to Bezos, an ultra-luxury Gulfstream G700 private jet, landed in Sydney at 1.15pm (AEST) after flying from the Pacific. The PJ is one of the best vehicles money can buy: It can be configured with up to five living spaces and has a range of 14,353 kilometers. Bezos, whose net worth is valued Forbes The company, valued at approximately US$260 billion ($372 billion), reportedly owns a fleet of four private jets.
What the couple are doing in Australia remains a mystery. Amazon is doing well in this market and is among the tech giants competing to build data centers in Australia. The company already operates more than a dozen off Australian shores, surpassing that number last year. Elon MuskStarlink will sign a multimillion-dollar contract with the National Broadband Network to deliver satellite internet to rural and regional Australians. Amazon Australia did not respond to a request for comment by deadline.
Therefore, our guess is that Bezos, who no longer runs the company as CEO but remains chairman of the board, will definitely have a few meetings in his diary, vacation or not. The person who is not currently scheduled to meet is the Prime Minister. Anthony AlbaneseAccording to a source familiar with the Prime Minister’s diary.
This surprised us, of course, because Albanese had never seen a billionaire tech executive he didn’t want to take a picture with.
Where is Barnaby?
Last week was a big week for One Nation. Senate’s perennial hearth revealed Malcolm Roberts described alex jonesA fountain of conspiracy theories, including that the Sandy Hook school shooting was a false flag, a “beacon of hope around the world.”
Then the leader came Pauline HansonMediterranean holiday with a billionaire Gina Rinehart. This is complemented by the emergence of the controversial far-right freak show, as well as the Hanson podcast tommy robinsonProven too eccentric even for the UK Reform leader Nigel Farage and was called a “bandit” by Andrew Bolt.
Late last week, our colleagues wrote to Hanson and Barnaby Joyce We were in “constant disagreement”, there would always be some forensic tea leaf analysis. Joyce and One Nation of course insisted that the former Nationals leader and his new boss had a trusting relationship.
Attention was drawn over the weekend to the absence of Joyce’s name on the One Nation website and the absence of the party name on Joyce’s own website. It is unclear whether Joyce accessed the One Nation website or whether it was altered. Of course, as with all things One Nation, our guess was that this omission would probably have to do with lack of professionalism and short staffing rather than, say, an impending split. But then again, who knows.
Joyce, whom we reached Sunday, was “trying to pump herself up,” which we took to mean exercise, perhaps lifting weights. He was outraged by this imprint’s report last week, which revealed disagreements between him and Hanson. “On what basis?” he asked. When asked about his name not being on the One Nation website, Joyce said there was nothing about it.
I am happy to serve in clearing this up.
