“Is India really that dirty?” Australian vlogger’s viral video praising Patna challenges foreign portrayals of Indian cities

The Australian travel vlogger known as Fozzie Bhai on Instagram is winning praise for a new video that challenges common stereotypes about Patna, the capital of Bihar. In his latest film, he highlights the cleanliness, warmth and civic pride of the city, describing it as a “friendly” and “surprisingly clean” city.

In the video, he walks through the streets of the city, greeting locals in Hindi and saying, “Patna, Bihar, it’s not what it says. It’s actually a very friendly city.” He points out that Patna remains quite clean as infrastructure work continues. “There is a clear emphasis on cleanliness here,” he adds.

Call to foreign creators

Having lived in India for almost two years, Fozzie often shares candid opinions about Indian cities. In this video, he focused on Patna’s improving image and civic discipline. In the caption, it was revealed that he criticized foreign vloggers who portrayed India in a negative light. “Is India really as dirty as the rage trap travel vloggers would have you believe?” he wrote. “After living here for almost two years, I can tell you that not everything is as black and white as it is often portrayed.”

Positive reactions from viewers

The reel quickly gained traction and resonated with Indians who are often disappointed by negative portrayals of their city. Many users expressed pride and amusement in the comments. “Tier 2 cities in India are cleaner than tier 1 cities,” wrote one user. Another said, “I have seen foreigners appreciate Bihar more than our own people. Ironic, isn’t it?”

Locals welcomed the vlogger’s gesture. “Welcome bro. Spend some time here; you’ll meet the best people,” one user wrote. Another quipped: “You won’t get views showing this side; Bihar gets only negative PR!”

The video has since sparked a wider discussion about how smaller Indian cities like Patna are improving not just in terms of infrastructure but also attitude. As one viewer summarized, “Sometimes it takes a stranger to remind us how far we’ve come.”
