POLL: Should there be an early general election? | Politics | News

It has been a disastrous night for Labor, with the party bleeding seats across the country. Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to stay in office despite calls from his own party to resign.
Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch MP likewise called on the Prime Minister to vacate Number 10 after the election.
The Prime Minister’s departure will increase calls for a general election.
But now Daily Express readers can have their say. Should early general elections be held?
Labor is said to be the “biggest loser” of this election, but the results of the vote for Sir Keir will not be that simple.
Pollster Keiran Pedley, director of UK politics at Ipsos, said: “I think when the dust settles on this election, Labor will clearly be the big loser of the night.”
He pointed out that the party had lost councilors across England, primarily to Reformation, but also that, alongside the Green Party and the Conservatives, Labor was likely to lose power in Wales for the first time and potentially come third in Scotland.
“So, even at this early stage, it is almost impossible for Labor to be seen as the big loser of any election result other than Labor,” the pollster added.
“While everyone agrees that Keir Starmer is currently unpopular as Prime Minister and the Government is unpopular, the solution to this – there will be intense debate within the Labor Party – you may see the political stalemate on Labor continuing as they grapple with this question.”
Ms Badenoch told supporters she was “very proud” of the party’s performance in the election.
Speaking outside Westminster Town Hall, the Conservative leader said: “I said we will rebuild after our worst ever defeat and we can see these signs of renewal everywhere we stand.”
He later added: “Just two years ago people were writing us off, saying we were completely done and now we’ve won Westminster.”
