Amit Shah dials Assam CM to discuss flood-like situation in parts of State

Union Home Minister Amit Shah called Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, June 29, 2026, to discuss the flood-like situation in some parts of the state, officials said.

Mr. Shah wanted to know the extent of damage (if any) caused by overflowing rivers in the state and offered all assistance from the Center to address the situation.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 16,000 people were affected by floods in 69 villages across four income zones in Dhemaji.

A spokesman for the Northern Frontier Railway (NFR) had earlier said that the section between Archipathar and Simen Chapari in Dhemaji district has been suspended for train operation due to flooding and embankment erosion affecting a railway bridge.

“This bridge, located at KM 408/11-13, built in 1965 and later converted to broad gauge, was in a safe condition, but one of its piers became unstable due to a large part of the river bank being washed away in heavy rain,” NFR said in a statement on Sunday, June 28, 2026. he said.
