Amit Shah Open to CBI Probe in Randhawa Death

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in the Lok Sabha on Monday that he is willing to order a CBI inquiry into the death of Punjab State Storage Corporation district manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa on the written request of Punjab MPs.
The statement came after Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla raised the issue, alleging that Randhawa was under pressure from Punjab minister Laljit Singh Bhullar over tender allocations. Shah said he would take action once a formal request is presented.
Bhullar resigned from the Punjab Cabinet on the instructions of Prime Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Aujla alleged that Randhawa was forced to organize tenders in favor of the minister’s father and faced threats and attacks. Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu supported the demand for a probe and urged Punjab MPs to jointly hold a CBI probe.
Bittu stated that the incident was serious and called for justice, claiming that threats were made to the family of the deceased.
According to information obtained, 45-year-old Randhawa died after consuming toxic substances at his home in Amritsar in the early hours of Saturday. It was determined that the person, who was taken to a private hospital, died.
The allegations against the former minister and the request for a central investigation are being evaluated.
