Andhra Bus Accident: Revanth Reddy orders immediate relief measures after inferno kills 20

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to coordinate with Andhra Pradesh authorities to ensure prompt relief measures in the wake of the bus fire in Kurnool that killed 20 people.

The Congress Telangana chief said he has instructed officials to provide better medical aid to the injured and implement other relief programmes. Reddy also directed Jogulamba Gadwal district Collector and SP to immediately go to the accident scene and supervise the rescue operations.

The Congress leader further said, “The news that a private bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru met with a horrific accident in Kurnool district has come as a deep shock. The report of multiple deaths in the accident is deeply saddening. I pray to God for the repose of the souls of the deceased… and extend my heartfelt condolences to their families.” he said.

Kurnool bus accident: What happened?

The tragedy occurred around 3:30 am on October 24 near Chinna Tekuru village on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway. The private Volvo bus operated by Kaveri Travels was carrying around 40 passengers when it collided with the motorcycle. According to the information obtained, a huge fire broke out as a result of the motorcycle being dragged under the bus with its fuel tank cap open. Eyewitnesses said the flames spread so quickly that many passengers were trapped inside before they could react. While 12 passengers managed to escape, some with serious burn injuries, at least 20 people, including the motorcyclist, lost their lives.

Meanwhile, Kurnool Range DIG Koya Praveen confirmed that 19 people, including two children and two drivers, were rescued.
