US President Donald Trump threatened to “destroy Iran” and “go back to the stone age” in an angry Truth Social post on Wednesday as he rejected a ceasefire agreement with Tehran. Trump added that America would consider it “when the Strait of Hormuz is open, free and clean.”
He added that the person from whom a ceasefire was sought was Iran’s New Regime President, who he said was “much less radical and much more intelligent than his predecessors.” So far, Iranian officials have rejected demands for a ceasefire, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has insisted that Tehran wants a complete end to the conflict rather than a temporary pause. There has been no confirmation yet regarding Iran’s ceasefire request, and it is unclear at this stage whether the Iranian president has the authority to speak on behalf of the regime. Trump has previously insisted that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would not be a problem for the United States, suggesting it would happen quickly once the conflict ends.
Trump is expected to make televised statements about the Iran war at 02:00 UK time on Thursday morning.
Speaking on Wednesday, Donald Trump also told The Telegraph that he was strongly considering withdrawing the United States from NATO after it had failed to join his war against Iran.
He told the newspaper that he saw the alliance as a “paper tiger” and was considering withdrawing the United States from the bloc.
On Tuesday, Trump said the United States would be done in Iran “within two or three weeks,” regardless of whether a deal is made with Tehran.
Speaking at the White House, Trump also said that oil prices “will fall” with the withdrawal of US forces from the country.
He repeated his claim that regime change in Iran had been “achieved”.
Speaking at a press conference at the Pentagon on Tuesday, US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Dan Caine confirmed that more than 11,000 targets had been hit in the last 30 days.
The Navy also reportedly successfully removed more than 150 ships.
US Secretary of War Peter Hegseth also said that the coming days will be “decisive”.
He added: “American firepower is only increasing. Iran’s power is decreasing. We have more and more options, they have less and less.
