Andhra Pradesh: YSRCP to hold statewide protests on May 18 over fuel price hike

Speaking in a teleconference with party district coordinators, district presidents, parliamentary observers, MLAs, constituency coordinators, assembly observers and leaders of affiliated wings, Sajjala said Andhra Pradesh is currently witnessing some of the highest fuel prices in the country, according to a statement released by the YSRCP State office.

He noted that people were already struggling under rising costs of living, and that instead of reducing prices, the government was further increasing the burden on farmers, transport operators, small traders and middle-class families. He said the rise in fuel prices triggered a rise in prices of essential commodities and worsened the economic distress across sectors.
Recalling the promises made by Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh during the previous YSRCP government, Sajjala said the ruling alliance must now implement its own assurances to the people.
According to the statement, on the instructions of YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the party has decided to hold protests in all constituencies across the state on May 18.
Sajjala instructed party MLAs and constituency coordinators to lead demonstrations and later submit memorandums to District Collectors, RDOs and MROs. He called on political parties, public organizations and affiliated groups to join the protests and make them massive and innovative.
Sajjala also reviewed the preparations for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and asked the party machinery to remain fully alert.

He emphasized that each stand should be treated as a unit and directed the leaders to complete the appointment of skilled Booth Level Representatives (BLAs) as soon as possible. He said the party’s central office has prepared a special orientation and training plan for BLAs to ensure that no genuine voters are removed during the revision process.
He also instructed the party leaders to complete the committee appointments, identity card verification and digitization processes without delay within the next two weeks.
Stating that YS Jagan was personally following these activities, Sajjala asked the leaders to strengthen media and social media campaigns at the district and constituency levels in order to effectively convey the party programmes, people’s struggles and failures of the coalition government to the people.
