Government won’t let software engineer check MyGov app’s code

If you’re one of the millions of Australians who use myGov to access Medicare, Centrelink or the ATO, you’ve been told by the federal government to use the Code Generator app to keep your account safe.

When it comes to the app’s security, the government has spent four years fighting a bid from a Queensland software engineer to see if the app is as secure as they claim.

Services Australia, which runs myGov, now argues that revealing the inner workings of the app would pose a threat to national security.
