Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to leave behind royal possession in ‘Easter move’ | Royal | News

Reports suggest Andrew could move to Marsh Farm by Easter (Image: Getty)
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to move into Marsh Farm, which is said to take place in the next few days. He left Royal Lodge in Windsor last month and is temporarily staying at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate. While his belongings head north, there is a valuable piece of royal history that has been in his care for several years and is unlikely to travel with him.
In the garden of Andrew’s old house stands Y Bwthyn Bach, which means “Little Cottage” in Gaelic. In 1932, the future Queen Elizabeth II was elected by the people of Wales. Gifted to Elizabeth for her sixth birthday, this life-size playhouse is described as “the grandest Wendy’s house ever.”

The two-storey miniature country house was designed by architect Edmund Willmott in traditional Welsh country house style and includes a kitchen, living room and upstairs bedroom and bathroom. It has four rooms in total and even includes a kitchen and bathroom with plumbing, with hot and cold water, electricity and a heated towel rail in the bathroom.
The playhouse’s kitchen is fully equipped with a working refrigerator, gas stove and small blue-and-white porcelain dinnerware and tea set.
In the living room, a miniature radio works, a small oak dresser fits neatly into place, and a bookshelf is filled with Beatrix Potter’s beloved stories. Above the oak fireplace hangs a portrait of Princess Elizabeth’s mother, the Duchess of York, which completes the charming interior.
Built using materials left over from the redevelopment of Llandough Hospital, Bwthyn Bach has been enjoyed by generations of royalty.
When he became Duke of York, custody of the theater passed to Andrew, and he reportedly paid for its upkeep.
Daughters Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were among the new generation to enjoy the country house. Princess Beatrice later led the restoration of the arcade and was featured in the 2012 BBC documentary by Queen Elizabeth II. He described Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee in a documentary, calling it “the most magnificent Wendy’s house ever.”
The future of the theater remains uncertain with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor stepping down from royal duties. Buckingham Palace announced that Y Bwthyn Bach was officially appointed King George III. He confirmed that it belonged to Charles. BBC reported.
Historians have suggested that it may have returned to Wales, perhaps to St Fagans, to honor its origins and historical significance.
Historian Dr Elin Jones told the BBC: “Both the Royal Family and the governments of England and Wales have other things to think about and these are much more urgent and important than being a child’s toy.
“But it could be argued that the best place for this little cottage would be for it to go back to Wales and to St Fagans as part of our country’s history.
“The house is a curious expression of the loyalty the Welsh have felt to the Royal family over the centuries.”
