Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has seen better days. Due to his problematic ties to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew was stripped of his right to be a prince, was forced to move to a much more modest home and has only been seen occasionally walking the dog since his arrest. While King Charles III and Prince William appear to have cut off contact with the former prince, there is a possibility that he remains in contact with his other siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
Edward and his wife Sophie are said to have visited him at Wood Farm for dinner during the Easter holidays, described as a “brotherly welfare check”. Anne, who has been faced with protesters shouting about her brother and his links to Epstein at events, is understood to have spoken to him on the phone, even suggesting he could move to his property in Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire. mirror reports.
According to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, this is because the pair have more freedom to speak to the former Duke of York.
He told the Mirror: “I think this is an example of the divide between the institution of the monarchy and the royal family. “The King and his heir William have a vested interest in preserving the monarchy and they feel they have a duty to do so.
“Andrew poses a threat to the reputation of the monarchy, and so both Charles and William keep their distance. I’m sure Anne and Edward feel the same loyalty to the Crown, but they also have a bit more freedom to communicate with their brother Andrew. And they seem to.”
Bond added: “No one has any idea what Edward and Sophie were talking about with Andrew. Personally I doubt it’s anything to do with the move to Marsh Farm. It’s been reported that they’re staying for dinner, so I think this is a lot more of a chance for Edward to check on his brother’s mental and physical health. Some reports say Andrew is as arrogant as ever, but others suggest he’s deeply depressed.”
“Ultimately, I think this tells us that although there is no way back for Andrew and it will probably be a very long time before we see him in public with other members of the family, Edward (and Anne is believed to be) are privately keeping the channels of communication open. And they are undoubtedly keeping the King involved too.”
“But I think Edward’s visit shows that behind the royal family’s stoic facade lies a beating heart. We can only hope that one of them will put some pressure on their brother to do the right thing and tell US authorities what he knows about Epstein.”
Edward used his freedoms to become the first member of the Royal Family to speak publicly about the Epstein scandal.
“I think it’s very important to always remember the victims, and who are the victims in all of this? There are a lot of victims in this,” he told the Dubai conference.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has repeatedly and vehemently denied any wrongdoing regarding his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
