Andrew ‘wants taxpayer-funded security reinstated’ after being ‘threatened near his home by balaclava-clad man’

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor wants his taxpayer-funded security restored after an incident near his home in which he was threatened by a ‘man wearing a balaclava’.

The former Duke of York was walking his dogs near his Sandringham estate home on Wednesday evening when he was approached by a man said to be carrying a crowbar.

The man is said to have confronted Andrew, 66, near his home at Marsh Farm on the King’s Norfolk estate.

Police were called to the scene and it was stated that the former prince was shaken by the incident, although he was not injured.

The special security provision was removed by King Charles in 2024 due to his links to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein; He was stripped of his titles and expelled from his former home, Royal Lodge in Windsor, late last year.

Last night the Norfolk Police Service said a 39-year-old man had been charged with two counts of harassment following an incident in Wolferton.

Police officers were called shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday 6 May 2026 to reports of a man ‘behaving intimidatingly in the village’.

Alex Jenkinson was interviewed at King’s Lynn Police Investigation Center after being arrested on suspicion of public order offenses and possession of an offensive weapon.

Norfolk Police said Alex Jenkinson, 39, was charged with two counts of harassment following the incident in Wolferton, near the home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (pictured).

Jenkinson was later charged with two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior to harass someone or cause alarm or distress.

He is also accused of not providing a blood sample while in custody.

Jenkinson, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, was remanded in custody and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Following the incident, a source close to Andrew said: Telegram: ‘Although Andrew is no longer a working member of the Royal family, the threat to his personal safety is greater than ever.

‘In fact, it could be argued that he is at greater risk not only from a potential terrorist attack, but also from people who have become obsessed with him because of the news he has attracted in recent years.

‘This incident clearly shows why security measures must be appropriate for someone with such a high profile. There needs to be a review where Andrew is properly assessed in the light of what happened.’

A spokesman for Norfolk Constabulary said: ‘A man has been charged following an incident in Wolferton.

‘Officers were called shortly after 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 May 2026) following reports of a man behaving in an intimidating manner in the village.

‘Officers attended and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offense and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Center for questioning.

‘Alex Jenkinson, 39, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, has since been charged with two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior to harass someone or cause alarm or distress, and failing to provide a blood sample in custody.’
