Andy Burnham brutally mocked by famous comedian’s impression | Politics | News

A famous comedian brutally mocked Andy Burnham with impressions that viewers said were “absolutely successful” online.

Russell Kane took a satirical aim at the 56-year-old future Labor leader and Prime Minister, who over the years has carefully cultivated the persona of an upright Northern man of the people. Russell’s latest video, titled ‘Andy’, begins from this footage by stating that he has jumped “onto the b**** internet” to respond to “all kinds of accusations” that he “went to London because Keir Starmer resigned”.

Russell, who sported Mr Burnham’s trademark black T-shirt and blazer look, chuckled: “It couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Russell, who is posing as the new MP for Makersfield, adds that he has no interest in running into Number 10 and is more focused on “the disabled lift at Platt Bridge”, a suburb in his new constituency. In reality, Mr Burnham traveled to London by train from Manchester Piccadilly and arrived at Westminster to be sworn in as MP for Makersfield after Sir Keir Starmer resigned on Monday morning.

The comedian continued: “I’m not going to lie, when I was going to London I had a meal deal with Tesco because you get free booze and that’s what I’m like.”

Russell, who developed Mr Burnham’s sketch further, said he had chatted to “an old lady called Doris” on the train. He explained: “‘Andy, why are you going to London?’ “And I said, ‘Doris, I’m not, I’m here to represent the north, I’m staying, I’ve got to get down under that smoke to make myself swear… put your mind to rest, Andy’s not going anywhere.'”

He adds that his voters “of course need more sauce.”

However, at this point, the tone of the video suddenly changes as Russell goes into a Jerkyll and Hyde-like transformation and speaks aggressively to the camera. He grumbles that he’s going to London to see what Keir Starmer’s seat feels like when I wrest power from him with my army.

He shouts: “I’m going to unleash Angela Rayner’s monster on the ass of anyone who messes with me.”

Back in character, as if the angry tirade hadn’t happened out of nowhere, Russell said he was heading back north to Makersfield by train for a meeting about “using the disused town hall in Bryn as a karate center for disabled and blind children so they can do karate up north (sic)”.

Russell has released a series of impressions of Andy Burnham in recent weeks; Among them was a video of her making tea and eating toast, telling everyone how “normal” she was. He also said he liked “Coco-Pops with Sauce” for breakfast.

The impressions have since gone viral on X, with many commenting on how the comedian captured Mr. Burnham’s character.

Campaigner and political commentator James Melville wrote: “Here’s Russell Kane absolutely nailing his Andy Burnham impersonation.”

Another person solemnly added: “Keep going Russell and well done.”

Another asked “where they can sign up for northern karate” and another commenter continued his martial arts career, requesting: “Please expand Northern Karate because it sounds so cool.”

One person jokingly observed Russell’s impression, adding: “I’m relieved at last. He (Burnham) is such a solid, working-class, honest lad.”
