CJP Alleges Police Photographed Women Volunteers at Protest Site
New Delhi: As the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the government’s accountability for alleged exam irregularities entered its seventeenth day on Monday, activist Sonam Wangchuk marked the ninth day of her indefinite hunger strike by losing a total of 6.9 kilos since she started the fast.
According to the health bulletin provided by the doctors, Wangchuk’s blood pressure was recorded as 107/67 mm Hg and his blood sugar level was recorded as 72 mg/dL. The newsletter confirmed that she has lost weight since she started fasting.
In a post on X, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke questioned why the government allegedly asked the police to register women volunteers at the protest site.
“Why did the government ask the police to register female volunteers? Last night, some officials were caught taking photos of female volunteers. When confronted, they fled the scene,” he claimed.
Dipke traveled to Maharashtra on Monday and joined the students’ protest against the alleged paper leak in his hometown Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He said CJP stands in solidarity with the students and supports their demand for offline exams.
Several members of the All India Students Association (AISA) affiliated with CPI(ML) Liberation continued their indefinite hunger strike at a separate stage at the protest site at Jantar Mantar.
Danish Ali, joint secretary of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU), had to be hospitalized on Saturday after his blood sugar level dropped during his hunger strike. Neha, Manish, Hrishikesh, Deepak Kumar Verma and Aameen continued their indefinite fast at the protest site.
CJP had been demanding Pradhan’s resignation, alleging that repeated exam irregularities and paper leaks were ruining the lives of students and their families.
The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), held on May 3 for admission to medical colleges, was canceled following allegations of paper leak. Retested on June 21.
The CJP protest began on June 20 over allegations of irregularities in the country’s examination system and has since gained the support of many political leaders, activists and civil society members.
