Ange Postecoglou: Nottingham Forest sack manager after just 39 days in charge

Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou was sacked after just 17 minutes of the team’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground on Saturday.

The Australian’s sacking, 39 days after his appointment on September 9, means Postecoglou’s tenure at Forest is the shortest permanent managerial spell in Premier League history.

The former Tottenham manager failed to win any of his eight matches with Forest; There were two draws and six defeats in all competitions.

Forest collected just one point from Postecoglou’s five Premier League matches in charge, leaving the team one point above the relegation zone in 17th place.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that, following a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been cleared of her duties as head coach with immediate effect,” Forest said in a statement. The statement was included.

“The club will have no further comment at this time.”

It is understood Forest, who are considering Sean Dyche, are looking to make a quick date. There has also been long-term interest in Fulham’s Marco Silva. The Portuguese player worked for Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Olympiacos and he is also the owner.

Postecoglou’s employees, including Nick Montgomery, Mile Jedinak and Sergio Raimundo, are also expected to leave.

Marinakis was at the City Ground to witness Chelsea’s defeat but was seen leaving his seat around the 67th minute.

He did not convey the news to Postecoglou, although it is not unusual for a senior club official to inform the 60-year-old instead.

Postecoglou then bid farewell to his players and apologized, stating that it had not worked and that he could not fulfill the task assigned to him.

When Reece James put Chelsea 3-0 up after six minutes, many fans headed for the exit and the home fans began jeering at the final whistle.
