Angel Mom rips sanctuary state after daughter’s alleged killer walked free

Jennifer Bos, whose daughter was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant and thrown in the trash, criticized the system that allowed her daughter’s alleged killer to go free.
Megan Bos’ decomposing body was found in Waukegan, Illinois, in April 2025. Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, is charged with multiple felonies in connection with her death.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), felonies are not arrestable offenses under Illinois sanctuary law, so Mendoza-Gonzalez was released after his court appearance.
“This is absolutely crazy,” Jennifer Bos told “America Reports” on Thursday. “I can’t even understand how they can justify this and advocate for Congress to agree to this happening.”

“So he was found in the garden with a body that he had in his possession for 51 days, hiding in the garbage can while everyone was looking for it,” he continued.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested him on July 19, 2025.
Megan Bos allegedly said she visited Mendoza-Gonzalez’s home and found him unresponsive due to a drug overdose. According to DHS. After allegedly leaving her body in the basement for several days, he placed it in a trash can in his yard and left it there for almost two months.

Mendoza-Gonzalez is charged with mistreatment of a corpse, concealing the death of a person and obstruction of justice, but the investigation is ongoing.
On Thursday, ICE celebrated the one-year anniversary of its Combating Victims of Immigration Crimes (VOICE) office, which provides support to angel families.

“After he was found I spent several months trying to catch him. [Mendoza-Gonzalez] “His arrest was futile as these charges were not possible in Illinois,” Jennifer Bos told Fox News. “The VOICE office contacted me shortly after ICE arrived and picked him up.”

Bos said the office reassured him after his daughter’s murder, especially while the alleged killer was at large.
“When he was free, I felt incredibly alone as I stood there stunned, and it was such a relief to have them call me and say, ‘We’re here for you. You tell us what you need and we’ll figure it out.’ And that’s what they did,” he said.
VOICE tracks perpetrators of angel families as they are moved to be held in different facilities, which Jennifer Bos said is helpful.

The VOICE office was established during President Donald Trump’s first term but was disbanded during the Biden administration. Former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem reinstated it in April 2025.
ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons said since VOICE’s relaunch the group has received nearly 900 calls from victims, family members or advocates needing “real help.”
Jennifer Bos criticized claims that immigrants commit crimes at much lower rates than American-born citizens.

“If it’s a crime, if they killed someone, if they permanently changed someone’s life through violence, why does it matter what percentage of the crime they committed as a whole? It doesn’t matter,” he said.
Megan Bos would have celebrated her 38th birthday in January.
