Angela Rayner’s resignation letter in full as she steps down over tax row
Angela Rayner resigned as both Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary after an investigation into the unpaid stamp tax in the new Hove Flat.
Ms. Rayner said that this week received false advice on the purchase of the property and led to less land tax payment than it should be and directed him to the Prime Minister’s independent advisor Sir Laurie Magnus on the standards of the Ministry.
On Friday, Sir Laurie made his decision back, saying that it was below the expected standards.
Below Ms. Rayner’s resignation letter to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer:
“Dear Keir,
“We thank you for your personal and public support in recent days. As you know, I directed the ministry standards to your independent advisor on Sir Laurie Magnus, and after realizing that I was wrongly paying for the Duga Mission Land Tax (SDLT), I conducted a comprehensive investigation into my personal financial situations.
“As Deputy Prime Minister, Housing, Communities and Local Governments, Foreign Minister and Parliamentary member, I believed that the British people should always observe the highest standards in the government, and the independent counselor has concluded that I have the best acts in the highest purchase with good faith, but I have not accepted my good beliefs.
“Considering my position both as a housing secretary and as a complex family arrangements, I deeply regret my decision not to receive additional expert tax advice. I take full responsibility for this error.
“Also, I must consider an important fee that the ongoing pressure of the media on my family. While waiting for me and my life, my family did not choose to question their private lives and be exposed to the public.
“Considering the findings and influence on my family, I decided to resign as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister for housing, communities and local governments.
“It was the dignity of my life for a young mother to serve as the highest -level government from a council land in Stockport. The challenges of the government, when I raise children working as home assistance, is nothing compared to the difficulty of putting food on the table and taking a roof on our heads.
“I always knew that politics has changed life at all times. The last worker government gave me the tools I needed to build a better life for me and my little son, and therefore I tried to serve the working class communities in the government to do the same thing for the next generation, as I was ignored in power every day.
Im I made it for them in every decision I made. If it was not for the decisions taken by the last workers’ government, I started to help raise my children, even if it didn’t give me a council house to support me – and I just hope that the changes I made in the government would have the same effect for young girls who grow up on council stretching like me.
“Through my employment rights throughout the country, they will receive the biggest increase in workers’ rights in a generation. This turning point will change for millions of people trapped in insecure and low -paid jobs, they will not only need them, they also do not need them, but I will also be proud of this inheritance, and I will be proud of this inheritance.
