Ways and Means Advances limit for Delhi govt fixed at Rs 890 cr: RBI

The Reserve Bank on Friday set the Ways and Means Advances (WMA) limit at Rs 890 billion to help the Delhi government clear any temporary mismatch in receipts and payments.

Earlier this week, the central bank signed an agreement with the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) to handle the general banking affairs of the city government with effect from Friday, January 09, 2026.

“WMA limit for GNCTD has been fixed at Rs 890 billion with effect from January 09, 2026,” the Reserve Bank of India said in a statement. he said.
Accordingly, the revised total WMA limit for State Governments/Union Territories will be Rs 61.008 billion as against the existing limit of Rs 60.118 billion, he added.

WMA are temporary advances given by the RBI to the centre, state governments and Union Territories to overcome any mismatch in receipts and payments.
