Last night was Canberra’s annual soiree: the Midwinter Ball.

Traditionally, leaders of both major parties deliver a good-natured speech that has veered between off-the-record and off-the-record over the years. This year for sure closedbut that didn’t stop many participants from saying: snoop Angus Taylor’s speech was a complete fiasco.

While Sussan Ley’s speech last year was warmly received, Taylor’s efforts went down “like a lead balloon”, according to one press gallery journalist.
