Angus Taylor can’t free himself from Dutton’s ghost on immigration

The Coalition, traditionally a party with strong border control and high immigration flows, has two problems with immigration.
The short-term problem is that immigration is one of the issues that enables One Nation to destroy its votes; This process continued during the reign of Angus Taylor; The Coalition’s vote has continued to fall since Sussan Ley replaced him at the beginning of February.
The long-term problem is that immigration was part of the reason why the Coalition lost so many votes to Labor in the political centre, and the Coalition’s apparent determination to offend as many major ethnic communities as possible played a significant part in the loss of urban seats.
