Virat has a ‘very sharp business mind’, reveals Agilitas Sports co-founder as King Kohli discloses investment strategy
Abhishek Ganguly recalled his first meeting with Virat Kohli, who later became an investor in Agilitas Sports. The first meeting stayed with him for years.
Ganguly founded Agilitas Sports in 2023 along with Atul Bajaj and Amit Prabhu. Virat Kohli initially co-founded the one8 brand under the Agilitas umbrella. He later became a shareholder of Agilitas in December 2025. This is part of the strategic partnership and investment agreement.
Ganguly, an IIM Lucknow graduate, arrived in Mumbai on the day Virat Kohli scored a double century against England. This feat was achieved in the fierce heat of Mumbai. Ganguly planned to meet Virat the next day.
Later in the evening, Abhishek hit the hotel gym at Trident. He was stunned to see Virat start training with full intensity after a full day on the field.
He asked how this was possible since he had been playing for quite a long time that day. Virat said that long shots make training even more important. This answer changed Abhishek’s idea of commitment.
“Among the many things that Virat is known for today, he has a very, very sharp business acumen. I always appreciated his feedback. So even thinking about Agilitas and then thinking about One8 with him was phenomenal,” Ganguly said in a YouTube video featuring King Kohli.
Virat Kohli’s investment strategy
However, Virat slightly disagreed with Ganguly regarding his “business acumen”. She said she didn’t know the ‘B’ of business before she met Abhishek. He then explained his approach to business.
“In business, if your ultimate goal is to make money from something, it can only go so far and then it will disappear. But if your goal is to give something that has meaning and has people’s intention, energy and love behind it, then that translates the same way,” Kohli said.
“I’ve always approached my ideas this way. Do I want to wear this product that I’m ready to provide to anyone who wants it? If the answer is yes, then yes, I’m going to pursue it. So that’s all I think about,” he said.
“There were a few situations where I could either be a part of one or a part of Agilitas. That’s where I said I want to be a part of Agilitas because I want to be able to share ideas and create business with it and others,” the cricket legend said.
“Then you’re not just thinking, ‘Okay, they’re going to be interested in my brand. This is what I want in the brand. And this is my exit plan.’ Now I get involved in the creative process of everything that comes out, and for someone like me who always likes to do something, create something, it helps me to be invested in the right way and excited at the same time. That is exactly why I chose to invest,” Virat Kohli explained.
