Anna Wintour, former editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, shared her thoughts on First Lady Melania Trump’s fashion style, stating that at least she always “looked like her.”

“I don’t think it’s necessary at all to wear a suit to the office.” Wintour told the magazine: on Tuesday. “Think of the women one admires: Mrs. Obama comes to mind. Whether she’s wearing J.Crew, Duro Olow, or Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel, she always looks like herself. I admire the new First Lady of New York City because she looks so cool and wears a lot of vintage clothing; she’s young, modern, and also completely herself. To be fair, Melania Trump always looks like herself when she dresses, too.”

Wintour, Vogue’s current Global Editor-in-Chief, appears on the cover of Vogue’s May 2026 issue alongside actress Meryl Streep to promote the upcoming film “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” In the film, Streep reprises her role as fictional high-profile fashion editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, who is often compared to Wintour.

Streep was more critical of the First Lady’s fashion choices, calling out her famous “I don’t really care” jacket from 2018.

“I have a lot of thoughts about this. I think the strongest message our current First Lady has sent is, ‘I Don’t Really Care, Do I?’ It was the coat that said. when he went to see immigrant children who were incarcerated. “All clothing is about expressing yourself, but we’re also exposed to larger historical and political expectations,” Streep said.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Melania Trump’s representative for comment.

In 2019, Wintour, who was still editor-in-chief at the time, defended the absence of Melania Trump on the cover of Vogue, despite the company frequently featuring former First Lady Michelle Obama as its political stance.

“You have to stand up for what you believe in and have a point of view,” Wintour told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour. “We profile the women in the magazine because we believe in the stances they take on the issues we support, we think they are leaders.”

She added, “Her role as the First Lady of the United States and everything she does is much more important than superficial photo shoots and covers. It shows how biased the fashion magazine industry is and how insecure and narrow-minded Anna Wintour really is.”
