Anne Hathaway reveals she was half blind for 10 years due to cataract

Anne Hathaway struggled with a secret medical condition for a decade before finally getting surgery.

While appearing on The New York Times’ podcast “popcast” “The Devil Wears Prada 2” The 43-year-old actor revealed he was “legally blind” in one eye throughout his 30s due to early-onset cataracts.

“This is perhaps too much information,” he began. “I was half blind for 10 years.”

“It affected my eyesight so much that I became legally blind in my left eye and eventually had surgery,” he continued. “And I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until I finally saw the full spectrum.”

“I’ve calmed down since then,” Hathaway added. “I didn’t realize it was actually taxing my nervous system.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, cataracts are clouding of the lens of the eye.

“For people with cataracts, seeing through cloudy lenses is often like looking through an icy or fogged window. Blurry vision caused by cataracts can make it difficult to read, drive at night, or see the expression on a friend’s face.”

Hathaway said her current vision is a “miracle.”

The actress continued: “I appreciate seeing it because I literally wake up every day and see how I did it, I feel like it’s a miracle.” “I was actually saying, ‘Oh, two generations ago this wouldn’t have been an option for someone like me.’ So I feel very connected to that kind of miracle.”

Recently, Hathaway reacted to plastic surgery rumors floating around the internet, even though she “prefers” not to “comment on anything” and “keep a low profile.”

“We’re in a period where people are very confident in assuming that what they think is true, and sometimes what they think is true and sometimes it’s wrong,” Hathaway said.

“The speculation has become so loud that you feel the need to reveal your truth,” he continued. “And I’ll probably always wonder: ‘Should I have posted this or shouldn’t I have? Should I have just gone ahead and done what makes me happy and makes me more confident on the red carpet?’ But I felt like the conversation was becoming distracting.”

“Also, these are huge medical decisions that people assume,” he added. “I wanted to show that, no, I didn’t make a huge medical decision. Just two braids.”

She later admitted, “By the way, the other thing about all this is, I might still get a facelift one day.”
