Another Awami League Leader, Along With 7 Others, Arrested In Bangladesh | World News

DHAKA: Bangladesh police arrested with the other seven leaders and activists of the party on charges of “planning and financing of destructive activities” as well as former Awami League deputy Saddam Hossain Pavel. According to a press release published by Dakka Metropolitan Police on Friday by the media wing, former Awami League Deputy Saddam was detained on Thursday night during a raid in the Muhammadpur region of the capital.

In addition, seven other seven people were arrested on the same night during separate raids by the police in Dakka. Release also said that lawsuits were filed against everyone arrested in different police stations against certain charges. Police reportedly accused of “organizing and destabilizing the country by breaking the law and order and organizing sudden regiments in different parts of the capital.

These recent developments are coming in the midst of the ongoing pressure of Awami League leaders and party -related activists under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus.

In the local media, last month, Bangladesh police arrested 1,593 Awami League leaders and activists in an country -wide operation.
