Another man arrested over suspected murder of teenage girl missing since 1998

A second man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 17-year-old girl who was last seen in 1998.

Donna Keogh disappeared from Middlesbrough city center in 1998 and detectives suspect she was murdered shortly after her disappearance, according to Cleveland Police.

His body was never found.

On Saturday, the force said a 62-year-old man was arrested in the Manchester area the previous day in connection with the investigation and would be questioned in police custody.

Earlier this year police arrested a 64-year-old man from the Leeds area, also on suspicion of Donna’s murder.

Cleveland Police said he will be released on bail while the investigation continues.

Donna was last seen in Middlesbrough on 28 April 1998.

Deputy senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Evan Kirtley said: “This morning we made a second arrest in connection with the murder of Donna Keogh.

“The man remains in police custody where he will be questioned. “We are in close contact with Donna’s family and they are being kept fully updated.

Detective Inspector Kirtley added: “Donna’s family have lived with excruciating uncertainty for nearly 30 years because they need answers about what happened to Donna and we are determined to find those answers for them.”

“Someone out there knows what happened and can tell us to give the family some comfort and peace after all this time.

“If you have information, please let us know. You can contact us directly or report anonymously.”

Donna was last seen in Middlesbrough on 28 April 1998 and was known to have traveled to Leeds that year.

Detectives investigating her disappearance and suspected murder have been carrying out investigations in the city in recent months.

The charity Crimestoppers has also offered a £20,000 reward for information about Donna’s murder.

In 2018, police excavated a field in Teesside and found human remains, but forensic tests revealed they dated back to the Middle Ages.
