Rec ball update: It’s a part of the season where I need to think about my #mentalhealth

Guys, I’m at a point in the season where I need to host a midseason home run derby for my 14U team (there are only three 14ers on the team). They are 1-6, they have lost six in a row and their morale is as low as it can be. We need something to break the ice, so my plan is to buy a field and turn it into a MrBeast Games event.

I need to place targets in an area worth Gatorade or something like that. My plan is to take the $100 to Costco, Target, or somewhere else, have Screencaps Jr. figure out what these kids will be competing for, and then treat it as a $100 investment in my own sanity.

Do you have any suggestions for what this home run derby should look like? Yeah, if you could fly across the high school diamond and into the outfield, I’d count it as a home run. Friends, I need high energy. Tell me how to spice it up even more.

Destination weddings: Have they gone too far?

My hockey friend told me that the reason his niece’s fiancé chose Scotland was because he had a dream (!!) to get married in a Scottish castle, so he decided to “rent” a castle in Scotland for their wedding. My bud crashed the wedding and created a firestorm in his family tree. He told me: “There’s no way I’m going to fly 8 hours to Scotland and then spend 2 hours on the ferry just to get to this castle for the wedding. Period.”

His decision sparked a lot of controversy around us. The main topic seems to come down to the generational issue of the “kids these days” variety. For a traditionalist like me, I like the idea of ​​inviting everyone you love and everyone who loves you to your wedding. It’s a very special day. Family. Friends. Youth. Stale. Food. Beverages. Music. Apex-level memories created that special day. All under one roof, we celebrate the beginning of a new journey. It seems a bit wrong to choose a location where both parties (the bride and groom and their families and friends) will have to travel around the world for the event. Time, money etc. You limit the number of people who can go on the trip due to various factors such as: The sample size for my hockey and golf friends may be small/skewed, so I’m hoping to get a solid reading from a larger, reliable sample size, also supported by the SC Community. Kinsey: In my opinion, couples can choose where they want to have their wedding and the guest can simply say no. It’s pretty ridiculous that the family is upset that someone wouldn’t spend $10k or whatever it takes to attend a wedding in Scotland. Tough.

I understand your point of view on the traditional side of things, but you have to remember that weddings are now seen as context that helps mobilize women in their social circles. This is social life resume material. Oh my god, you got married in Scotland? This must be magical, Sydney.

Trust me, Sydney won’t care if her uncle isn’t there. Friends, tell them you have a travel ball tournament you can’t miss. Problem solved.

Where we grew up we had a ball field we could walk to, but when we could only get 12 or so players to play on we would use my neighbors side yard as home field, then our front yard was the rest of the field. Since some neighbors lived very close by, we had to use tennis balls, and since my dad is one of the best Knothole coaches of all time, we had access to clubs and real bases.

We played all day almost every day, and to my mother’s dismay, those bald spots quickly appeared. My dad, who is raising four boys and is a coach, loved it. My mother would complain often enough that she’d ask, “Why don’t they play in the park?” We remember what he said. My dad would just say, “The grass will grow back, these guys will grow up, and before we know it, they’ll be gone.”

Fast forward 30 years and here we are. As a member of the millennial generation, Chris B please let the kids play, have a cold one, and even offer to be the full time pitcher, they will love you even more for it. Keep up the great work. God bless America and continue to make Rec Ball great again.
