Anti-ICE agitators march to, rally at Target Center in downtown Minneapolis

Anti-ICE agitators, including activists and clergy, gathered outside the entrance to the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis on Friday to rally to stop federal immigration enforcement in the blue city following the “ICE Out of MN: Truth and Freedom Day” march.
Thousands of people marched from the House of Commons in downtown Minneapolis to the arena on Friday.
Tensions flared in the city after Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent on Jan. 7, and organizers called for no work, no school and no shopping on Friday.
Marchers gathered with signs reading “Silence is more dangerous than freezing,” “This was a terrible idea, Napoleon Bovino” and “Justice for Renee Good.”

“Stand up, fight,” others chanted in the freezing cold of 20 degrees below zero, “What do we want? Thawing! When do we want it? Now!” and “The people united will never be defeated.”
Nearby sidewalks were filled with onlookers waving at the marchers.
Once inside the arena, footage shows a less impressive group of demonstrators coordinating the wave with signs and sitting in stadium seats, apparently trying to warm up from the harsh conditions outside.

While the demonstration appeared peaceful, journalists on the field noted that a security checkpoint with metal detectors had been set up in front of the arena.

Elizabeth Shaffer, who represents Ward 7 on the Minneapolis City Council, applauded the turnout on social media.
“Thousands of people showed up today to march peacefully in downtown Minneapolis and rally at Target Center: ICE out of Minnesota immediately!” Shaffer wrote in an X post.

He shared a photo from inside the arena showing mostly empty seats behind a Jumbotron that read “ICE IS OUT OF MINNESOTA.”
