The German backpacker Carolina Wilga made a statement from the hospital bed after 12 days missing in Western Australia outback.

First of all, I would like to thank a great thank you from the bottom of my heart-a thank you from the depth of my soul! For all incredible support during the search.

Previously, I didn’t know where my place was in a culture on the other side of the world, but now I feel a part of it. I was deeply impressed by the courage, helpfulness and warmth shown to me here. Western Australia taught me what it really means to be part of a real community. Here, humanity, solidarity and care are really important – and in the end this is the most important.

I’m sure I’m just survived thanks to this incredible support boom. The thoughts of all people who believed in me, looking for me and hoping for me gave me the power to continue in my darkest moments. For this, I want to thank you for the bottom of my heart.

Especially for police inspectors, searchers, German consulate, health personnel and great nurses that make me very compassionate. My deepest thanks is only to every person who thinks of me – and of course my savior and angel goes to Tania!

Some people may wonder why I left my car even though I have water, food and clothes there. The answer is: I lost control of the car and rounded up a slope. I hit me significantly in the accident. As a result of the accident, I left my car confusion and I got lost.

I’m grateful for surviving.

Thanks Australia – you are great.
