EU ready to hit US with $37b tariff list: Italy

14 July 2025 17:28 | News

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has prepared a tariff list worth $ 21 billion ($ 37 billion) for the US goods of the European Union.

On Saturday, President Donald Trump threatened to apply a 30 percent tariff for imports from the US and the EU.

Tajani said that the European Central Bank should consider a new “quantitative enlargement” bond purchase program and more interest rates to help the EURO ZONE economy to the Daily newspaper Il Messagero.

In a statement on Sunday, the European Union said that it would extend the suspension of measures against US tariffs until the beginning of August and will continue to pressure a negotiated agreement.

Tajani said that if an agreement with the US is impossible, the EU’s already 21 billion-Euro tariff package can follow a second set.

However, he said he was sure that progress can be made in negotiations.

“Tariffs are damaging each of them starting from the US,” he said.

“If the stock exchanges fall, he will risk his pensions and the savings of Americans.”

The target said that “zero tariffs” and Canada should be an open market between the USA, Mexico and Europe.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron and the European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen, to solve the increasing trade war with the United States.

European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic warned that Washington and Brussels have approached a positive result for both sides and that a 30 percent tariff would almost eliminate trade.
