Antisemitism, extremism and the case for a cautious Royal Commission

Independent A.Australia greets Government’s announcement this week with caution Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion in Australia.

Be careful because IA. Knowing that Australia has long had a deeply racist, bigoted and chauvinistic culture, it is doubtful that antisemitism even ranks among the top ten most popular public prejudices. Discrimination against First Nations people, male violence against women and widespread Islamophobia are probably more than just hatreds in Australia right now daily.

Previously, as members of an extremely remote and displaced colony, they had brutally and methodically marginalized large numbers of people, including but not limited to Australians, Indigenous Australians, convicts, Catholics, Irish, Chinese, Afghans, Italians, Greeks, Turks, Eastern Europeans, Western Europeans, Lebanese, Vietnamese, Indians, Pakistanis, Africans (except the South). sings, makes noises, or acts a little “ethnic”. Australian Jews generally do not do this.

The opposite of hate is not love, but indifference. When it comes to antisemitism, for a broad swath of Australian society, it’s not that Australians won’t hate you – they absolutely will – it’s just that Australian Jews haven’t attracted public ire so far.

When Australians think of Jews, it will probably be about our military, through the prism of other Allied nations, defeating the evil German Nazis in the Second World War, liberating Europe and those buried in concentration camps. This sentiment is the exact opposite of antisemitism. Indeed, Australians are proud to have helped end a dark genocidal chapter in human history; this is a time when more than 6 million Jews were tortured and murdered by an evil fascist regime.

They must probably be a little surprised that the Jewish homeland we helped create (at least according to what we can’t deny we’ve seen on television every night for the past two years) now appears to be committing its own genocide against a similarly marginalized people. And Australians can recognize a genocide. We’ve made one or two ourselves and even destroyed an ancient island civilization. You can never make up for this as a country. This is too bad. Shame.

We see this in Gaza too. It’s not anti-Semitism. Not anti-Semitism, but anti-extermination. Anti-ethnic cleansing. National disapproval of brazen human slaughter and blatant war crimes. Some might say this is a positive element of Australian culture that does not require a royal commission.

But having said all this, despite the ridiculously specific and distorted terms of reference announced by the Albanian Government in its hasty royal commission on “antisemitism”, in this publication’s opinion the subject is indeed worth casual investigation.

Because for many years this publication has been calling out, charting, recording and noting the rise of antisemitism in Australia through the alarming resurgence of Neo-Nazis and white supremacists. Since at least November 2, 2018, this writer has appeared on ABC’s afternoon panel program DrumHe issued a warning about the dangers of right-wing extremism in Australia. Four months later, the largest terrorist attack ever carried out by an Australian far-right neo-Nazi took place. committed in ChristchurchNew Zealand. In the incredible attack, 51 people died and 89 people were injured.

Watch the ‘Drums’ video here:

Of course, the Christchurch massacre took place in a mosque, not a synagogue; but White supremacists still spread hateful anti-Semitic rhetoric and actually distribute stickers featuring the Star of David to rally support. Their ideology, as we all know, was to persecute not only Jews during World War II, but also Gypsies, Slavs, Negroes, the disabled, and anyone they deemed less than their vile Aryan ideals.

Independent A.Since 2018, Australia has commissioned renowned anti-racism expert and researcher Tom Tanuki to expose these right-wing White supremacist Nazis. He does such a great job that you can read his stories at:A. HERE. Also, be sure to check out their incredibly bold, lively and entertaining videos. HERE.

So here I amA. He does not think antisemitism is the primary form of discrimination in Australia; If this Royal Commission uncovers and perhaps helps prevent the rise of right-wing extremism – Nazism, let’s be honest – then we’re all for it.

Because no one in Australia wants any more evil, bloodthirsty fascists committing genocide against helpless and innocent civilians.

So it saysA.Join the Royal Commission.

Bondi Royal Commission risks expanding power rather than delivering justice
