AOC predicts victory over JD Vance in hypothetical 2028 election

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is incorporating Gen-Z messaging and viral jabs at Vice President JD Vance into her playbook as she builds momentum for the 2028 presidential race, a Republican political strategist has claimed.

The strategist’s comments come after the New York Democrat used meme-style language and mocked Vance in a Dec. 17 poll, declaring he would “crush” him if the matchup became a reality.

“This is a case of greasing the squeaky wheel, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he ran a vibration-based campaign,” Libby Krieger said. Communication Consultant he told Fox News Digital.

“That’s because a lot of its substance is soundbites or progressive policies,” Krieger added.

Ocasio-Cortez gained initial attention on Wednesday when she republished the Verasight poll on X.

The poll showed him leading Vance by a 51% to 49% margin in the hypothetical matchup in 2028. His first reaction was “Bloop!”

Ocasio-Cortez’s communication style evolved into a second message later Wednesday stating that she would “crush” the 2028 race if it occurred.

Asked by a reporter if he thought he could beat the 41-year-old man, he replied: “Listen, these polls, like three years later, you know, it is. But let the record show: I would have crushed him. I would have crushed him!”

Those two moments underscored what Krieger said would become a youth-focused, “feelings”-driven campaign targeting young voters.

“AOC is trying to use the language of Gen Z and connect with young voters,” he said.

“He is building a campaign based on vibes rather than a policy platform.”

Krieger compared the approach to Kamala Harris’ attempt to embrace “brat” culture during the last cycle.

“This seems almost reminiscent of Kamala’s use of the word ‘brat’ and her version of it,” he said.

“AOC would probably do a little better job than Kamala of running a vibes-based campaign because she’s younger,” he explained.

“But he will still have to talk about some policies, because not every voter will be content to vote on feeling – and when he talks about policy everyone will see how radical he really is.”

“AOC is not a very good candidate because the policies she supports are extremely progressive,” Krieger added.

“If he were to contest the general election he would have to focus himself a bit more in the middle, but that would be difficult given the reputation he has gained.”

By contrast, Krieger said Vance has an advantage with voters who prioritize depth and policy foundation.

“JD Vance has more substance than AOC, and I think Americans will see that,” he said. “Vance knows his stuff on almost every subject and is extremely straightforward, and he’s young himself.”

He added that both Ocasio-Cortez and Vance draw on newer strains of populism, including a desire to appear casual or self-aware online.

“Decorum can sometimes be perceived as elitist or establishment,” he said. “But Vance has the advantage of not only being a squeaky wheel like AOC, but also being young enough to be relatable.”
